Default \"Nit\" vs \"Tight\"

Hello all,

I tried the search function but couldn't find the answer. What is the difference between playing tight and being a nit? I have recently tightened up my game becasue of mt PT stats and I was curious if there is a difference.

Thanks.

Nit is a live poker term that describes an undesirable type of player who plays all the time and insists on all procedures being enforced to the letter even if it is not in the interest of the integrity or quality of the game.

Nits typically play tight, but tight play does not indicate nittiness.

For example: I sit in a 2/5 $500 max NLHE game. I sit down with a rack of reds and 11 whites. The local nit goes crazy because I've attempted to buy in for $511 instead of $500.

Thanks. Nit sounded like a pejorative towards tight play.
