Re: Preventing hackers from stealing your money - please read.
These are good sensible suggestions. I might add a few points:
1. If you are not comfortable with at the very least running a Linux LiveCD then third party firmware for your router (such as DD-WRT) is not for you. I use linux/DD-WRT at home and setting up DD-WRT can be tricky, and you run the risk of invalidating your warranty and bricking your router if you get the install wrong. 2. Get an AV program that updates daily. On my windows box I use CA eTrust AV. You used to be able to get a free one year trial by going to http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/ - not sure if that is still available. Ultimately good security comes from good common sense. For example, if you receive an email from someone you know which looks a bit suspicious, you should contact them to make sure they sent it and always treat things with suspicion. |

I'd like to add that Hitman Pro is a GREAT way to scan for malware/spyware/etc. It runs 5-6 different programs to scan for those, automatically.

Re: Preventing hackers from stealing your money - please read.
i just ordered that router. hopefully it wont be like my d-link router which keeps disconnecting and losing power every 30mins. When i had my old router, which eventually died...when it was working it never used to disconnect my internet constantly. So hopefully the new router will fix that problem.
