I think train in vain falls more into the pop category with these songs - and boy is it an awesome song |

Re: Perfect pop songs

[ QUOTE ] To those people who disagreed with my definition of a pop song... I'm right, and you're wrong. [/ QUOTE ] No, you're not. If *NSYNC never sold a single record, their music would still be "pop." (I would have liked to have lived in such a world.) Dexter Freebish's "Leaving Town" won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 1999. They should have sold more albums. They didn't. But "Leaving Town" is still a magnificent pop song. [/ QUOTE ] Again, I disagree. N*Synch's music was only "pop" music because it was derivative of the music that was currently popular (i.e. the boy band version of the spice girls). If N*Synch had released their music in another era people would have said, "What the [censored] is this?" People wouldn't have considered it pop music. For something to be pop music it must be derivative of the style, or structure of the times popular music. That is a fluid concept and changes over time. |

Re: Perfect pop songs
I think someone already mentioned Letter From an Occcupant, so here are a few more:
Blur- End of a Century The Notwist - Consequence The Shins - Saint Simon The Dbs - Black and White Beulah - Hovering Islands - Rough Gem Modest Mouse - Float On The Walkmen - The Rat Yo La Tengo - Cherry Chapstick The last 3 bands aren't necessarily "pop", but the songs are, imo. |

For example, the New Pornographers write "pop" songs, even though you don't hear anything like them on top 40 radio. |
