Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
Torre thinks that you should use your closer in a tie game at home but not on the road because you can get a save situaion on the road. Why managers think this way I'll never know. If it's tied and you're on the road in extra innings, there is no margin for error. Isn't that when you want your best reliever pitching? Sometimes you end up scoring more than 1 run in the top half of the inning anyway, so the save isn't as difficult. So stupid. It basically cost the Yankees the 2003 World Series when Joe had Jeff [censored] Weaver pitching instead of Rivera.

Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
I'm just guessing but...
Rivera was his last pitcher, and he's someone that he absolutely doesn't want to pitch more than two innings and make unavailable for tomorrow, so he was hesitant to put him in. Also, he's thinking ahead to how he's going to get enough innings to finish tomorrow after the 4 2/3 solid he'll get from Mussina and a burnt out bull pen. |

Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
Let's go pitcher by pitcher :
Wang : Taken out in the 7th after 86 [censored] pitches. OH NO A LEFTY IS UP LETS TAKE OUT ONE OF THE BEST STARTERS IN THE LEAGUE SO WE CAN PITCH THIS REALLY OLD GUY FOR ONE AT BAT BRILLIANT!! Myers : Mentioned above. I could probably get Sweeney out, but yea we should take out Wang so Myers can throw 7 pitches(poorly) Bruney : 0 IP, 1 hit, 2 BB's LDO Villone : He used to be a SP so let's only use him for 8 pitches. Farnsworth : Can't complain about this one, maybe he could've gone 2 IP Vizcaino : Wow he actually did good. Proctor : Joe Torre's thought process "Hmmm, we are in extra innings tied and letting up a single run will lose the game. I have the best reliever in baseball history on my bench, and he's only thrown once in the past week, also we have Monday off. SOOOOO, lets put in Proctor so I can continue my experiment and see if I can kill a pitcher. I hate Joe "ZOMG LETS BUNT AND NOT USE GOOD PITCHERS" Torre |

Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
Pitcher by Pitcher:
Wang: When someone enters the 7th with a 4-1 lead and the go ahead run comes to the plate he is routinely pulled. Particularly when he's starting to miss up. Myers: Lefty on lefty specialist. Walks the go ahead run. Game. Is. Slipping. Someone. Give. Me. An. Out. Bruney: Gives up a hit to tie the game, then fills the bases with a walk, then walks in the go ahead run. Villone: Pulled for a pinch hitter in a one run game. And up to this point, you think all three of these moves are terrible. Okay. Farnsworth & Vizcaino: When you have weapons like Villone, Farnsworth, & Vizcaino, you use them all. You apparently don't have a complaint about these two. Proctor (left in): Now he's screwed, in that he doesn't have an option after Mo, and if he's lucky, maybe he can still use Mo today and only Vizcaino and Proctor will be unavailable tomorrow, and after that we get a day off. Boy. Sure hope Moose will be good for 4 and 2/3. Meanwhile, 8 innings (of darn near) shut-me-down out of the Giants bullpen, a murderers row including Tachsner, Chulk, Correia, Kline, & Hennessy. Show me a team that has lost 4 out of its last 5 to the Rockies and the SF Giants and I'll show you an unlucky team that would be .700 if the manager wasn't an idiot. |

[/ QUOTE ] wait, so are they not .700 because they are unlucky or because torre is an idiot? just clarifying. i think once the winning run reaches third, you have to bring rivera in. abreu's bunt was stupid. i don't care if abreu is 2-for-100 against kline. put a hit-and-run on. if you play lefty-righty matchups with myers and bruney, then you have to bring villone to face bonds. bruney clearly didn't have anything yesterday, and couldn't find the strikezone either. edit : oh yes, the HR that Wang gave up was a lucky swing. it was a good pitch down and in that somehow feliz turned around, pulled, and wrapped the pole. also, after the yankee break on an out at first (jeter's throw that pulled cairo off) the umps were calling clear outside pitches for strikes for the SF bullpen. sooo sick. you screwed up, it doesn't mean you have to favor the other team now!!! |

Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
As far as yanking Wang, I think everyone does it there, if you catch my drift, and I think you do.
If a team enters the 7th with a 3-run lead and the starter on the mound, he is certain to get pulled if the go ahead run comes to the plate. Apart from it being appropriate (in the specific case), it is the way the game is managed, in part at least, for meta-game (don't hang a starter out to dry and put him on the hook for the loss when he gets you that deep into the game, somebody on your staff needs to get some outs). I would have brought in Rivera to start the 13th. I'm also not concerned of the DP with Abreu up. Of course, I also spent most of yesterday in my underwear, so I'm not sure how important what I think Joe Torre should have done. |
