Default white chip pro report from NJ

Alittle background:

I've quit my career job (IT consulting) 10 months ago to try some random things. Since I worked in a restaurant, been a substitute teacher, and for a week now been living in Ocean City NJ.

Ocean City NJ is 0.5 hours from AC. It is a dry town, so it's pretty quiet at night. You can find some cheap housing on week-to-week basis: $100-$150/week for a room with no further obligations. You'll have to share a bathroom and a kitchen and housing isn't the greatest, but you are living on the beach in summer time, so don't complain.

I've been playing $1/$2 NL in AC. I dropped a grand. No big deal. I am sure I make some mistakes, but 500 BB swing in NL is unavoidable for anyone at some point. So far I ran QQ into a set, ran a flopped set into a higher flopped set, ran a flopped set into a flopped straight with a FD on board (there was already $70 in pot and I had $140 left in my stack), flopped a set but guy caught a flush on the turn, by that time his stack was 0.5 of the pot so I almost had the odds to call for full-house even if he has flush 100% of the time. So yeah, I lost a grand and I am feeling alittle down. I'll give it one more shot today for $300 and then I'll probably pack my bags and head back to NoVA and go back to my career work.

I had a dream of living on the beach and supporting myself through poker. But a $1300 bankroll isn't enough for that apparently. I'd just hate walking away because it's like admitting defeat, but don't have much money left in my bank account and I'm not going to tap into my investments. So if I lose that $300 I'll probably leave.

But this is not a sob post. It's full of valuable information for aspiring white chip pros:

- Consider living in Ocean City NJ. It's super safe, cheap housing, especially if you find roommates. I live in XXX Wesley Av. Tenants come and go all the time, so there are rooms.

Some things to consider when deciding which casino to play in (the following lists are not complete):

Automatic shufflers: Caesar's, Borgata, Showboat, Bally's.

No Automatic Shufflers: Trop, Taj, Harrah's.

Free parking to lowest rank card holders: Showboat, Taj.

$1/hour comp: I believe all casinos comp 1/2 NL at $1/hour.

Good Luck!

How long a drive is it from Ocean City to AC during peak traffic times? I have looked at it on a map before and didn't look that convenient to AC to me.

I thought Harrahs was free also.

And that Taj was not free.

I like the idea of a $100/week room. I could see doing one week each month year round, and that is cheaper than a motel.

I don't know why you still can't live that dream. Just go back to the workforce and save up, win a bigger bankroll and come back at it, preferrably at 2-5NL or 5-10 NL if you're good enough and have a big enough roll

Just following up that you are correct. Harrah's Marina, Showboat, and Trump Plaza are the only three casino garages where you can park for free (with the lowest level casino players card).

Taj Mahal used to have free parking during late winter/early spring, but is now charging $4.

Also, the TAJ does have auto shufflers, just not all of the tables have them, in the low limit area where the 1/2 game is played, all of them have them with the exception of 2 tables (both tables in the corner by the window near the front podium)

I thought when you said "white chip pro" you meant the $100 white chips found in any California casino lol Alas you mean $1 chips.

My advice: dont be a white chip pro, I dont think anyone can make enough money to support themselves playing 4/8 limit or 1/2 NL.

Screw the haters. You can do it!!!!!!!
150 bbs is plenty bankroll. To have even more $$$ you could move into a nice beachfront studio for 100 DOLLARS TOTAL!!!!

Just go to the Sears sporting good department, get hooked up with one of these Not a RickRoll and profit!!!!

Definitely not true, must have diamond card (second at of 3 levels of cards) to get free parking at caesars
and i can confirm that about 70% of the tables at the taj have automatic shufflers.
and for the record, i've never agreed with or supported the idea of a "white chip pro", however, with such a low cost of living as OP stated, it seems completely feasible

another year with the desk job and give it another shot with a bigger, more comfortable bankroll

gl,
Ben
