Your thoughts on food eating contests

I would like to see mattw's (or other like minded people's) argument for these kind of events being irresponsible? I haven't seen anything to support that claim whatsoever.

Just to address the world hunger bit: its an irrelevant issue, people aren't hungry because professional eaters are eating food that would otherwise be available to them. it's a complete non-sequitur.

I'd just like to add that after that guy beat kobayashi's record for hot dogs, I'm actually somewhat excited for the nathan's contest on july 4th, it will be like a battle of champions
