her parents act like it's the end of the [censored] world and she can't be successful because this happened. I really don't understand their reasoning.

yea, it's kinda gross for them to think about a 40 yo banging their 16 yo daughter, but honestly - what does this have to do with her being able to "light the world on fire"?

Well, now the parents won't tell her the combination to the lock on the shed where they keep the flammable liquids.

her parents act like it is the end of the world, yet they signed the consent form allowing them to get married, even though they say how terrible it is? They are stupid:

"Meanwhile, the Hagers say Windy withdrew, refusing to speak to them until she asked them to sign a consent form so that she and her coach — a man more than twice her age — could get married. Although anguished, her weary parents gave in."

Sounds like solid parenting - remember the days when you whined to your parents to get them to buy you a video game or let you stay a friends house - never thought some girl would whine to her parents to let her marry a 40 year old dude - and then have them agree to it, saying "Signing those consent forms was the hardest thing I did in my whole life, but we had to move on, it was going to kill us all,"
