Default 200NL - River play deep with a set of jacks.

At a pretty deep 10-handed table.. one or two people with less than $400 behind.

Four limpers and I make it $15 with JcJs from CO+1. Button calls, BB calls, two limpers call.

Flop comes Kd8d3c. Checked around.

Turn is Jh. BB checks, MP bets $15, one call, I raise to $80, button calls, BB folds, MP calls, and player to my right folds.

River is a 9c. MP hesitates for a second or two and checks. I have $400 behind, MP has about $500, and button has about $120.

- MP is a player I've played with a bit. Thought he was pretty TAG but has shown some really loose calls preflop. Has had pretty solid hands when he gets to showdown. Hasn't shown to be incredibly tricky but is capable of it.

- Button is a new transfer. First impression is he's probably tight/passive.

- I've played maybe 3 or 4 hands in the last hour and a half or so, including one where I was bet off a pot by MP a few hands earlier. A good TAG image for the players who've played with me. Border-line nittish for those that haven't.

My play?

Shoot. I knew I lost value on this hand. Just wanted to get confirmation.

I was tired and after thinking about what hands they might be calling with, how much to bet to get value from weaker hands, and what to do to a MP raise, I got lazy and checked. Button checked, MP showed AJ, and I took it down with my set.

So are most people in favor of a big river bet ($180+) or a small river bet ($80-$120)? I was leaning towards the latter.

I like the smaller bet. A pair isn't much to call more with, and if someone has a set or made their gutshot, they should raise. I would be a bit wary if a raise came back around, but I'd shove anyway.

The 9 actually completed an OESD. If it only filled a gutshot, I'd bet for sure.

I think my mistake was thinking MP was trickier than he actually was. If he hit a straight, he would almost always lead and, if the button hit, he's short enough that I'd have to pay him off anyway.
