"Toy Story" - I think including this and the other animated movies is really just an effort at some sort of filmmaking political correctness.

[/ QUOTE ]

Disagree. I'm not actually sure I've ever seen more than half of Toy Story, so I can't comment on the movie per se, but look at what that movie has spawned over the past 10 years - it's pretty ridiculous.

[/ QUOTE ]

Right, and I'm saying that being the first doesn't make it a better movie. What, without "Toy Story" we wouldn't have computer-generated animation? Oh, thank God for the angels that brought us "Toy Story", what would we be doing without them?

This is going to get me in trouble, but this reminds me of how high "Invisible Man" and "Native Son" are often listed on lists of the Greatest Novels of All Time.

oe39: What else would you put in post-2000?

[/ QUOTE ]

Memento is one of my favorite movies, and would be in my top 100; but I can see why it would not be in AFI's top 100.

It is worth noting that Toy Story wasn't awful, story-wise - had it been, who knows where CGI movies go?

However, I am sad that based on these precedents, neither Tron nor The Black Hole made it on this list.

LFS,

The list isn't solely about it being a better movie, it's about it being first (my interpretation I guess, but fairly accurate).

A similar argument could be made for why Citizen Kane is #1.

These would certainly make my Most Overrated Films of All Time list. Saving Private Ryan would probably be #1.

50. "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" (2001)
71. "Saving Private Ryan" (1998)
89. "The Sixth Sense" (1999)

How are these ahead of Pulp Fiction?

Anybody else find it strange that LOTR: Fellowship... made it in at #50, but neither of the other two even cracked the list? I thought the third was the best of the series, and it was the only one to actually win best picture.

The biggest joke is how massively the list changed since the last one - I suspect to justify its existence.

Before I looked at it, I thought "I'll probably like more of the bottom ten than the top ten."

I was wrong. 4-4 tie.

[censored] all you SPR haters. It was a great movie.

Is it really so fashionable to hate on films that made a lot of money? SPR, Forrest Gump, Titanic, Sixth Sense, etc. The haters are always out in force when these films come up.

I find it hard to believe that of the 12 best movies ever, 9 were made between 1931 and 1963 (32 years), and 3 have been since (44 years).

[/ QUOTE ]

I have a feeling this has to do with the age of the people voting on this.
