uhh.... Now what name does he use??
friend of mine is having a dilemna.
buddy of mine got married several years ago... male buddy. Well, he took his wife's last name... no really, he did. and we didn't really get to know him until after he was married, so everyone knew him as if his wife took his last name... He said he took her name because she has no more people in her family to pass her name down and he isn't really close to his family. So whatever.... He has two kids with her. They also gave the kids her last name. Makes sense. Now they all have the same last name.. Here comes the funny part now... he gets divorced. Now he hyphenates his last name. He now has a new girlfriend and is engagged to be married.... what do they use for their last name? Is he going to 'triphenate' or is she going to take his already hyphenated name? or is she going to keep her name or is he just going to take her last name and drop his already hyphenated names. Keep in mind that his two boys last names are the same as his first wife. We are all having a pool on what he is going to do... I'm thinking he will be the first person I ever heard of that would have ever taken the last name of both of his wives...

I think Wife II takes his maiden(?) name. It's then a toss-up whether he goes back to his maiden(?) name or keeps the hyphenated name.

I vote that they all change their last name to something new, even the kids. Let the kids have a vote. Something cool.
On a semi-related note, my father hated his name at birth (Eugene) changed it to Joe, then got sick of that and then a few months after my older brother was born, my dad changed his name to that of my brother.

let me put some names in there to try and make it more clear. I, obviously, won't use real names...
Mike Grover (buddy) marries Michelle Dante His new name is Mike Dante. His kids names are Mark Dante and Jamie Dante He gets divorced and now he changes his name to Mike Grover-Dante. His kids names are still Mark Dante and Jamie Dante. He's getting re-married to Angie Plesh. Is his new name going to be Mike Plesh? Mike Grover-Dante-Plesh? Mike Dante-Plesh? Mike Dante? What is her name going to be? As a father to his 2 boys, I would think he would want to try and have the same last name as his boys.
