Or made enough money to attract eBay's attention and be bought by them.

However, I think the point was that perhaps they have more scammers BECAUSE their security requirments are much lower.

regardless of their reasons, they aren't going to get that level of documenation on me. I've actually used their service in the past with my checking account (no longer works). This is the SAME account tied to the debit card and now they don't know who I am? Screw them.

Besides I already found someone to transfer me the money.

For those who are curious, I found another answer that works. I bought a Visa gift card at Walgreens. You have to wait an hour to activate it, but then it is immediately usable on FTP after activation.

Downside:
$9.95 activation fee
also monthly fee on the card of $4.95, but I'm assuming if you are not in need of regular deposits, it's better to just pay the $9.95 and cancel the card after you load the contents to FTP. I only loaded $100 on the card, because I didn't know if it would work and wanted to be able to easily spend it down elsewhere if it didn't. 9.95% is a pretty steep rake before playing a hand, so I wouldn't suggest doing it for small deposits like my trial deposit.

At least now I have an established backup plan when I don't have someone to transfer funds to me online. Hopefully I will be less of a bankroll donk and survive variance better in the future.

Maybe someone could explain the point of Visa Gift Cards. If you want to give someone a cash gift, then just give them the cash and save the 10%. Why give them a Visa Gift Card and pay the juice? I don't get it.

Because people are stupid. The worst are those who buy gift cards from stores to give as presents. God, just give cash as a gift so the recipient isn't stuck buying stuff from only one place.

Cash - the universal gift card.

I've always figured the reason they do this is because they're trying to give you a present, not something to pay the bills with (although some would argue paying the bills for somebody is a present).

So cash isn't a present? People can't buy stuff from stores with cash? Cash can only be used to pay bills?

So if people give you cash for your birthday, it isn't a present, but if they give you a gift card it is?

Gift cards are pure marketing... and profitable to the stores.

Bobo is right. In October 2002 PayPal was acquired by eBay.
