5.5: Maniac goes all in at the beginning, call justified?
Hi
This guy raised all in for about three hands in a row. So I decided to call. He showed QJs and won of course. Should I have folded? Which hands would justify a call here? Only QQ+? Full Tilt Poker No Limit Holdem Tournament Blinds: t25/t50 9 players Converter Stack sizes: UTG: t1320 UTG+1: t1460 MP1: t3690 MP2: t235 MP3: t1205 CO: t1560 DonLigretto: t1375 SB: t1195 BB: t1460 Pre-flop: (9 players) DonLigretto is Button with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 6 folds, DonLigretto raises to t150, SB raises all-in t1195, BB folds, DonLigretto calls t1045 (pot was t1395). Calling this is fine IMO, but I expect a lot of people to like folding.

So you're calling (even this early) in a tournament with AK (offsuit and suited), and QQ+? What if he raised to 1000 with a stack of 1500, would you have pushed?

The fact that he is on ATC makes it a little different than if you had AKo the first hand against a shover readless.

This is a super easy call. Its a blind battle, and the pusher is a maniac.

You always call a maniac with this hand! Doubling up early in a SnG will often help you enough to compensate for the times you go bust.
You could argue that having a 40/60 early on is enough to justify a call in this case. The double up is just so good! |

[ QUOTE ] You could argue that having a 40/60 early on is enough to justify a call in this case. [/ QUOTE ] false [/ QUOTE ]Why? Having 1500 of 13500 chips gives us ~1/9 of the money, having 3000 of 13500 chips gives us ~1/5 of the money. I might write some more on this subject some day but the barrier for doubling on the first hand is lower then 50%. |
