Live 15/30 - Gas flop or turn?
Live 15/30, 9 handed at my local 7 table card room.
Only 1 15/30 table tonight (Sat.) - table is unusually passive with lots of limping and calling. Lots of action, most hands are at minimum 4 handed but usually 5 or 6. Several questions here: Who agrees with the pre-flop call? Do you gas the flop or wait for the turn? Do you try and get tricky from the turn on, or play it straight-forward? Hero on the button with 3,3 UTG folds Seat 4 - Paul calls because that what he does. He's the most passive cold calling bad player at this level - but he usually runs good and catches all kinds of crap. He's running good tonight and up. Seat 5 calls - LAG and bluffs a lot for this game Seat 6 calls - weak, passive Seat 7 calls Seat 8 raises - this could be a lot of stuff but is likely a big suited ace or Q,Q+ Hero, Seat 9 cold calls 2 with 3,3. Love it or hate it? I figured at least BB calls and everyone else is calling for sure so I almost have odds to catch my set. Implied odds are good I think if I do. Yes? Seat 1 SB calls - he is probably the best player at the table - solid and tricky, and aggressive, hard to put on a hand. Seat 2 BB calls - don't have a good read yet on this guy (relatively new to me) but seems TAG and is very aggressive for this table/ Everyone calls and we have 8 to the flop for 16 small bets (minus rake) Flop is A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 10x, 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Bingo, I got lucky and hit my set. Gas now or wait for the turn? I took a wait and see attitude depending upon action. In this game I'm not blowing anyone off of the flush draw and otherwise the board isn't draw heavy. SB checks, BB bets, Paul calls, Seat 6 calls, Seat 7 calls, Seat 8 (raiser) calls, I raise. I didn't expect this many callers and was surprised Raiser didn't raise. I thought it was a good time to get the money with a draw equal to flush draw and ahead right now. SB calls, BB raises, Paul folds, folds to seat 8 who calls, I cap (4 bet max.), all remaining call. 4 to the turn for a mega tonne of small bets. Turn Ax. OK turned the house. The way the action is I can see SB as having a small to medium ace, BB the flush draw and Raiser another (big) ace. My house isn't bullet proof here. Checks to me and I bet. Does anyone try to get tricky here and check through? I keep in mind CDC's advice - " I bet, because they like to call ". The only reason the check would be to get more bets on the river, but there's no guarantee of that. So I bet, all called. 4 to the river in a really big pot. River: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Check to me and I bet. All call. So there are lots of different ways to play this. I felt that I played it pretty straight-forward. Who plays this differently? Thanks in advance for any responses. |

I see no reason to check behind on the turn. You might even get lucky and get check-raised by an Ace with no boat.

standard. I jam flop on the draw heavy board. Checking the turn is bad.

Re: Live 15/30 - Gas flop or turn?
I'd almost never play this hand differently given the description of players. You need to jam this flop every time. A turn check here really doesn't make any sense to me and I play it like you did almost every time. With this kind of board and the way you played the flop there is a very slim chance you get a raise opportunity on the river, even if you do check the turn.

Re: Live 15/30 - Gas flop or turn?
I'll join the amen chorus. Pre-flop is correct, and the rest of the hand plays itself. Gas it on the flop, just like you did. Then just keep throwing money in the middle of the table.

Re: Live 15/30 - Gas flop or turn?
Checking the turn closing the action would be the most boneheaded thing you could ever do. With so many bets in the pot, people could easily call with a broadway gutshot draw, everyone wtih a flush draw will call, along with the people who are right to call, the people with an ace. I might be mildly concerned about AT, but that should never lead you to checking this turn.
You make the most money when people put money in drawing dead, and all flush draws along with gutshot straight draws would be doing just that (assuming the flush draws didn't also have a ten (only one)). NEVER CHECK THE TURN WITH MANY PEOPLE TO ACT (heads up is different). |
