Flop: 8 players, $80 pot. 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Checked around to villain 1, who makes it $10. Villain 2 calls, hero raises to $30 to chase off the others.

jpke? you went to a ton of effort to write up a post with detailed reads and action and you didn't spend five seconds contemplating a proper raise amount?

[/ QUOTE ]

This raise was intended to chase out the rest of the table, not the two villains. This was more of a table read than anything in terms of the amount bet, and I was right about getting the rest of the table to fold. However, I see your point in terms of the draws. Thanks.

Edit: At the time I wasn't overly concerned about a flush draw, since at FW 1/2, a pot size bet would still have kept the flush draws in, so I didn't see any fold equity in a larger move. However, on review I realize that I was presenting at least the right implied odds for any draw to stay, making what I viewed as their stupidity actually the right move. So point well taken, this was my own stupidity in trying to be clever.

Okay, now the results, with my thoughts behind it. And to those commenting on the time taken, in reality the time after villain 2 had made his move was not much longer than a normal turn. Once #2 went into the tank, I was pretty sure what he had, and this was confirmed when he made his comment as he called. So most of my consideration was done as #2 was trying to decide.

Okay, so once #2 said what he did, I was almost positive he had A-Q. I considered how #1 had played his previous hands that I had seen. My thinking was that there was a very small chance of a bluff, and a pretty much equal chance of a flush, a queen, or a higher full house. Since I win 2/3 of those scenarios, I called, but for some reason still expected to lose the pot. After I called, neither villain really did anything and started the silent staredown typical of Foxwoods NL until someone showed, so for time's sake, I announced that I had a full house and flipped my cards. Neither villain moved for a bit, until #2 announced A-Q and tossed his cards, never showing them. #1 moved his hand to the muck also, and later on said that he had A-Q as well, although I'm not sure if this is true or not.

Sure, I probably should have waited until the initial better showed his hand, but if you've played this game, these staredowns can take a very long time, and the dealers rarely, if ever, do anything about it, so I figured it was quicker just to start by showing.

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback. I'm still learning a lot, and realize I have a long way to go to develop my game. As a "weekend warrior" I don't get to play all that much, so any feedback is appreciated. Clearly this was an easier call than I thought, but still seemed pretty darn difficult to make at the time.

You should watch more Black Goblin. Then you will learn that full houses are delicious.

At Foxwoods, you pay rake per hour, not per hand.

hahaha awesome. ive actually had discussions about this with players at teh table. we actually figured out with some of the insanely slow dealers there it costs us about 56 cents per each fill. STOP BUYING IN AT THE TABLES [censored]. get your chips at teh cage.
