Okay, I'll bet you $1000 with the 50-1 odds that I can take a 5 step approach in normal shoes at normal speed with a 15 lb ball and not die.

so let's just ignore everyone who doesn't fit into these categories. That's not a flawed or super-exploitable strategy at all!

Also, your sample size is too small. Do you see why?

Does anyone have any reasons for why the government has to regulate airports rather then leaving it up to um, you know, the owners of the airports?

Well I don't think this is their justification, and I'd be in favor of allowing private security to compete for the contracts at each airport (actually, probably each airlines gate would use a different one, but at any rate). However, airports themselves are a little hard to compete in, so that's almost certainly the reason (now what's stated, I have no idea).

Edit: Wow that's just awful writing, sorry. The answer I was trying to say is: Airport security: No idea, but likely some excuse of "needed regulation".

He has a point though.

What if everyone's bags have to be opened and searched?

What if you had to take off your pants?

What if everyone needs to be patted down?

How far is too far? You must draw the line at some point, right?

This reminded me of a story from 3 weeks ago. I was in Chicago and flying back home. I was flying Southwest and in Midway. I am in a wheelchair so have to be specially screened as usual, but I am used to it. But next to me in the special section was a toddler, he could walk but not yet talk. He was still wearing diapers. For some reason he was being specially searched like me. The TSA guy put the metal detector all around the 2 year olds body and something kept beeping. He was then about to search the diaper. The mother flipped her [censored], as would I. She screamed "You are not taking off my childs diaper". It would have been comical if it wasnt so sad. They finished about the same time as me and left, albeit a bit frazzled. Just thought I'd share.

Everybody's supposed to know by now that you keep your fat mouth shut at the airport and do as you're told. My 78 year old mother struggles out of her wheelchair and hobbles on thru with her cane in her stockinged feet. She got patted down once. Was I stupid enough to say anything about my 78 year old, hobbling mother getting patted down? No, I wasn't [censored] stupid enough to say anything about my 78 year old, hobbling mother getting patted down.

P.S.:

You owe me a royalty fee. Please to PM for directions for remittance.

Your take on this incident (aside form being wrong) is a gross injustice to your namesake!! You should be running to your window and shouting "I'm mad as Hell and I'm not going to take it any more!!!"

Actually, loser. Why? Because this offers absolutely no real solution to what some seem as a problem. While this might be an ideal scenario, the "problem" is occurring now and this scenario is impossible in the here and now. If you want to work towards a freer tomorrow that is fine but this post offers absolutely no solution now.

Everyone who reads this board knows what Shake's and your response to this question would be. By making these replies you create absolutely NO discussion except how old and tired it is.

It's interesting how you have no real response to the fact that the OP was absolute horse-[censored]. But, when someone inevitably brings up the point on how well this system would work under AC, theoretically, you are the first to jump in and cheerlead it.

Although this thread has been hijacked into what a hassle (very few people have actually used the word problem) it is to be in airport these days and how the government is using airports to scare us into wanting them, the original post of this thread was on the fact that the government officials use their powers excessively by detaining this woman for 45 minutes and humiliating her. She was in the wrong and that did not happen.

You are so quick to point out how bad our governments are that YOU are the one who is hurting your cause by using erroneous facts, even if it is in this small micro-community. Check your facts before you post, ie: the radio station that believes in aliens reporting the JFK conspiracy, then show us why we are so oppressed. That wil make it easier to stomach.

Would this have anything to do with the goverment giving airlines so much money and bailing them out after 9/11 and whatnot? Are they pretty much required to allow the government to regulate and operate a lot of the security so that they keep getting loans, grants, tax breaks, or whatever?

"I demanded to speak to a TSA [Transportation Security Administration] supervisor who asked me if the water in the sippy cup was 'nursery water or other bottled water.' I explained that the sippy cup water was filtered tap water. The sippy cup was seized as my son was pointing and crying for his cup. I asked if I could drink the water to get the cup back, and was advised that I would have to leave security and come back through with an empty cup in order to retain the cup. As I was escorted out of security by TSA and a police officer, I unscrewed the cup to drink the water, which accidentally spilled because I was so upset with the situation.

"At this point, I was detained against my will by the police officer and threatened to be arrested for endangering other passengers with the spilled 3 to 4 ounces of water. I was ordered to clean the water, so I got on my hands and knees while my son sat in his stroller with no shoes on since they were also screened and I had no time to put them back on his feet. I asked to call back my fiancé, who I could still see from afar, waiting for us to clear security, to watch my son while I was being detained, and the officer threatened to arrest me if I moved. So I yelled past security to get the attention of my fiancé.

"I was ordered to apologize for the spilled water, and again threatened with arrest. I was threatened several times with arrest while detained, and while three other police officers were called to the scene of the mother with the 19 month old. A total of four police officers and three TSA officers reported to the scene where I was being held against my will. I was also told that I should not disrespect the officer and could be arrested for this too. I apologized to the officer and she continued to detain me despite me telling her that I would miss my flight. The officer advised me that I should have thought about this before I 'intentionally spilled the water!'"

[..]

Monica Emmerson was detained for 45 minutes. She wasn't questioned about possible ties to terrorists. Her carry-on items weren't rigorously searched -- or even searched again. Neither the police nor TSA took any action that indicated that they throught she might be a security risk. She was just detained, harassed and threatened with arrest. All because of a sippy cup with water in it.

"I don't have to tell you that things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's worth. Banks are going bust. Shopkeeper's keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the streets and there's nobody anywhere seems to know what to do and there's no end to it!

We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat. We sit watching our TV's while some local newscaster tells us that today we had 15 homicides and 63 violent crimes. AS IF THAT'S THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE!

We know things are bad. Worse than bad, they're crazy! It's like everything everywhere is going crazy so we don't go out anymore. We sit in the house and slowly the world we're living in is getting smaller and all we can say is please leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV's and my steel belted radios and I won't say anything. Just leave us alone!

Well, I'm not gonna leave you alone. I want you to GET MAD! I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot. I don't want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first: You've got to GET MAD!

You've got to say: "I'M A HUMAN BEING GODDAMIT. MY LIFE HAS VALUE!!
