Yes, I realize that McD's are franchises. I was told that Chipotle is owned by the main McD's Corporation.

Why am I posting in OOT?

Chipotle is a public company. McDonalds does own a large chunk of the shares though. I don't know what the percentage is, but I'd assume they are the largest shareholder.

As a long time Chipotle fan (original Evans Ave. location FTW baby!!!), I always see this "OMG McDonald's OWNS Chipotle. McDonald's is the suck and this means Chipotle is the suck too DUCY?" argument. It's untrue, and Chipotle rules. (Not singling anyone out here, it just inevitably shows up in nearly every Chipotle thread.) The investment by McDonald's allowed Chipotle to expand outside of Denver, leading to the 100s of locations where you can partake in the deliciousness today.

McDonald's Corp. has now fully divested its investment in Chipotle.

Chipotle Wiki

Also, all locations are company owned, and not franchises.

OTB hit it perfectly. Chipotle does not franchise. I tried and they are very persistant to tell you no. So if I can't own one how about some stock (Ticker CMG). This stock has soared since it was initially offered. In the last year it has given a return of 50%. With growth this year of over 100 stores it has unlimited potential to be one of the next giant food chains. Everyone loves this place and it hasn't even developed in a lot of states yet. I live in South Carolina and drive to Charlotte to get a burrito, FWIW.

Steak Fajita burrito, corn and hot salsa, sour cream, cheese, and lettuce. Chips with guac. Can't go wrong.

I am going to have to try this "hybrid." I am salivating over its deliciousness.

I am a lover of all Mexican fare and I went to Chipotle for the first time ever last week (downtown Bellevue, WA near the Safeway). It was absolutely terrible. The chips I got were so incredibly over-salted that I threw them out. The tacos were nothing special. Maybe it was just this location? Honestly, I wanted to like it but it was crap compared to the Baja Fresh next door.

On a side note, I send much thanks out to whoever it was who recommended Jimmy John's for sandwiches. The gargantuan J.J. will make a cardiologist rich some day.

Pufchamp.

[/ QUOTE ]

Why the [censored] were you eating the tacos? It's a damn burrito place. The tacos are for the girls that can't handle a big burrito.

That's really weird considering that, if I'm not mistaken, Ray Kroc invented the franchise concept with his McDonalds.

Huh? I know that Chipotle doesn't franchise from reading the thread, it just seems strange that being owned by a company that flourishes due to franchising, Chipotle isn't a franchised operation.

Exactly. It isn't owned by McDonald's. That's what I meant.

Oh nevermind, my reading is retarded today. Didn't sleep well last night. I even knew that [censored] (I used to work in advertising for Taco Bell) but somehow I forgot. In my head I was thinking it was the opposite with Mickey D's buying them recently. Doh.

My point still stands in a way since it was owned by them yet never franchised.
