really weird question, semi poker related
ok the reason i'm posting this in MID stakes no limit is because the question i'm posing would have a different answer at either high stakes or low stakes.
Heres the question (i realize its hypothetical, just go with it) Say somebody offers you $60/hour for a generic job. Sales associate at a department store, managing some crappy retail store, etc. Point is that the job is nothing glamorous and by no means your dream job, but its not hard or dirty labour either. PLUS, you get $60/hour.... until you retire. Catch is that they know you play poker, and demand that you not gamble ever again if you take the job (assume that there would also be no way for you to circumvent this). Do you take it? Keep in mind these things. I play mostly 3/6 so i think i fit in perfectly into the very middle of mid stakes no limit. I average just over $300 an hour playing poker, but i'll coach for $150 an hour. Why? cause its guaranteed money, no variance. Also keep in mind that the average DOCTOR in 2005 made $57/hour. Thoughts? |

Re: really weird question, semi poker related
VERY interesting guys cause i said the exact same thing to a group of friends the other day. They thought i was crazy for turning down a doctors wage.... but.
a) I make 5x that an hour b) I make my own hours c) I don't have to leave my house (if i don't want to) d) I enjoy it So then i guess the REAL question is, whats your price? At what $/hour do you give up and accept the job? |

Re: really weird question, semi poker related
def not. If you just want the guaranteed money, take half of your roll and throw it at a stock broker to bring back 10-15%. It's not exactly guaranteed, but it's still WAY more solid than poker. If you're makin that much money through poker, I'd have to slap you for takin the job. Thanks for posting this here. Oh, and drop down one level until you've built your roll back up. good post.

Re: really weird question, semi poker related
This is a lot closer given the legislation.
If its more like 90-100/hr I think the answer changes for a good # of people. 60 is what a 50nl grinder makes. |
