line check, flopped str8, 1/2NL
There really is no cap on the buyin in this game. Some nights it plays like a 1/2nl, some nights 5/10nl. Yeah, it's a real live, juicy game.
BB is a loose passive donkey. MP plays really any two cards and is much more agr post flop. BB has about $80 and MP around $260. I'm sitting in LP with about $200. 1/2NL, 9 handed PF: Hero is dealt [9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]] UGT folds, UTG+1 calls, all MP calls, I call, 1 fold, CO calls, button folds, SB calls, BB raises to $12, 1 fold, MP calls, 2 folds, I call, 3 folds. Flop 3 handed, $48 pot: [J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]] BB bets $10, MP calls, I bump to $50, BB folds, and MP calls slowly. Turn $168 pot: [4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]] MP leads for $50. I'm thinking either the heart draw and he's trying to confuse me or he thinks two pair/TPTK is good. He's been showing down some weird hands (flopping two with things like J4o, K7, T6o). The only thing strong I can see from him is a set and I just feel golden. So I shove for about $85ish more and he snap calls. River $438: [4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]] Thoughts? I felt like I didn't want all of the action I was getting. |

Re: line check, flopped str8, 1/2NL
you had the second nuts against a guy who likes to try to flop weird two pairs
when he flips Q9, it's just a cooler live with it. |

Re: line check, flopped str8, 1/2NL
limp/calling with 97o here is so bad unless you're deepstacked. As played, I don't know what the problem is; you've got the second nuts against a player who shows down weird hands. If you don't want action in this spot, when DO you want action? The river sucked, but you got the money in on the turn.

Re: line check, flopped str8, 1/2NL
I fold this preflop in MP. It's a live, juicy game and with 5 players left to act, you don't want to end up playing 97o for 6 BBs. After that, everything else is great.

Re: line check, flopped str8, 1/2NL
Tim,
I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. As for the limp/call, I was pretty LP and I wasn't feeling anything big from CO to warrant a raise from him. I felt it was safe. At the very worst case, I'm not on the button. (boo hoo) Chances are that the big overs (aces, kings and maybe queens) are in the muck with so many limpers. This is the kind of hand that I find myself snagging TP with str8 draws, etc against a naked ace. Once in a while something like this hand happens. Thanks for the input |

Re: line check, flopped str8, 1/2NL
I understand the value of playing hands like this against weak players, but I think 97o is too weak to merit playing unless you're deeper stacked. This is a good spot to limp with a lot of cards, as long as the blinds are passive, but I still fold preflop, and if I do limp, I'm throwing it away after the raise. I'll wait until I double up with a solid hand before playing speculative ones like this.
