Re: Whats the Universe expanding into?
[ QUOTE ]
It is suggested that in this time the metric itself changed exponentially, causing space to change from smaller than an atom to around 100 million light years across. [/ QUOTE ] Hmm, hard to conceive this theory... |

Whats the Universe expanding into? [/ QUOTE ] When a shockwave orginates at a single point on the earth's surface and expands from it's center, where does it expand to? Do eventually all fronts of this wave end up back at the original blast point? What happens then? |

Re: Whats the Universe expanding into?
[ QUOTE ]
I'm pretty sure that by defintion there is nothing outside the universe. [/ QUOTE ] Most certainly not. Rather, there is no way to verify what exists outside of our universe because information exchanged between universes loses all meaning. 'Nothing' is far too specific to declare as what is outside of the universe. It might be nothing and it might be other universes. It might be Disneyland. |

Re: Whats the Universe expanding into?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Whats the Universe expanding into? [/ QUOTE ] I don't know - I can't form a concept of everything there is getting larger - or at least farther apart. But I looked at Wiki out of curiosity and found something else: [ QUOTE ] Accordingly, the question "why is the universe expanding?" is now answered by understanding the details of the inflation decay process which occurred in the first 10-32 seconds of the existence of our universe. It is suggested that in this time the metric itself changed exponentially, causing space to change from smaller than an atom to around 100 million light years across. [/ QUOTE ] Now I don't know the first thing about the physics of this but just going on what the above seems to be saying - that in way less than 1 second after the big bang the universe had the appearance of being 100 million years old - I have to wonder if that would affect our calculations of the age of the universe as it now is. [/ QUOTE ] It didn't appear to be 100 million years old. You somehow equated the distance they gave you with time. |

It didn't appear to be 100 million years old. You somehow equated the distance they gave you with time. [/ QUOTE ] I mean if the speed of light is constant it would appear to be 100 or maybe 50 (if the universe expanded in all directions from the BB) million. And if that happened in less than 1 second how would it be after 1 minute? 1 year? |

Maybe God did this in order to trick those with weak faith. Can you find a source so we can further research this? |
