Anything worth checking out in KC, MO poker?
I live in St. Louis but have never been to KC. I'm going to be up there for a weekend and was wondering if there is anything worth checking out.. We have an Ameristar and Harrah's here is STL, but if its different/nicer I wouldn't mind checking them out. Can anyone who has played in KC and STL help me out? Any other ideas would be great, non-poker too.
We are going to be staying around the baseball park (downtown?) also, and I won't have a car. |

the only thing that the ballpark is close to is the highway, which doesn't help much without a car

Ameristar and Harrah's are nearby and are both good casinos with poker rooms. I can't speak to the STL versions but I assume they're about equal.
If you had a car/access to cheap transportation, I'd recommend the Plaza (shopping, restaurants, bars). Its about 45 minutes from the stadium. Plaza Web Site |

i like playing at ameristar much more than harrahs. i've found the games to be extremly fishy on weekends and full of weak tight rocks during the week. both are great for the bankroll.
as a side note BOO CARDINALS!!!!! |

Re: Anything worth checking out in KC, MO poker?
Ameristar uses the "75% rule" which means that you can buy in with 75% of the largest stack at the table. Harrahs has abandoned that rule. Given the silly $500 Missouri loss limit rules, go with the Ameristar $2/5 NL game.

if you don't bring chips with you then the 75% rule won't help you any at 2/5

Re: Anything worth checking out in KC, MO poker?
stay away from Argosy, their room is small (7 or 8 tables i think) and the dealers are not so good. ameristar is THE best casino in KC. I think they are trying to start construction on another casino out near the race track on I-70, hopefully they will have a nice room. If your a limit player i would recommed skipping KC as you'll only find some extremely slow annoying 3/6 games, if your a NL player dont expect to see anything over the std 2/5 NL.

Harrah's. More no NL tables than the other's combined.

Re: Anything worth checking out in KC, MO poker?
Harrah's is supposed to be the best in KC, however, that doesn't say a whole lot. I've played in casinos in 4 states & 3 countries & Harrah's KC is by far the worst card room I've seen. AWFUL management & the SLOWEST dealers. One of the slowest dealers we counted only got off 9 hands in 30min. Its better than nothing but don't get your hopes up.

being the best place to play often has little or no correlation to the quality of staff...
although fwiw, things seemed better this year than in the past. Or should I say, things seemed less bad this year. |
