PokerStars Tournament, Big Blind is t100 (5 handed) Converter on pregopoker.com
UTG (t1058) CO (t1723) Button (t765) Hero (t1902) BB (t3552) Preflop: Hero is in SB with Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] UTG raises to t300, CO folds, Button calls t300, Hero? The smooth call by button worries me a little bit. I assume if I'm going to play this hand, I might as well get the money in pre-flop. What should my range be here, and is AQo within that range? |

I would read the button calling 300 when he has 765 left as a sign he is horrible. Is this wrong or are there some holdings it could make sense to just call with? I would be more worried about UTG raising to 300 when he has 1058. So I would focus on the read of UTG: if he has been raising a lot, I go for it, but if his range is AJ+,77+ I lay it down.

Fair enough - I assumed it was just horrible, and he wound up having A6 (he called my push - but I could see someone thinking it was a good idea with AA or KK, trying to get more people into the pot. Not really a live enough possibility to worry about, though, I suppose.

At this level you see A5o often enough to make this a standard +EV push.
