A weak passive player open limps from middle position, folded to you in the SB, BB is average or unknown. What are your raising standards from here?
I find myself raising A7o and up, 77 and up, and KTo and up. Do you tend to tighten up more in these scenarios when playing in a 1/2 blind structure as opposed to a 2/3? |

This is a sitaution that would very rarely happen in middle stakes games and higher. But it would be good to know what to do.
I think it would depend on a lot of things obviously. If you have a tight, solid image and the limper likes to fold postflop, I think you could do it with quite a wide range of hands. But as a general default answer... I think you have it about right. I vote 66 and better, A8o and better, and KTo and better. I would get a bit looser with suited holdings. With less equity, I think you would be better served to complete and play 3-way for the times you flop a strong hand. |

I usually raise Axs also.

In this situation, your action should depend very heavily on the calling range of the BB. You will be playing OOP to 2 players if he calls, and he's getting 5:1 in a semi-blind steal situation, but the more likely he is to fold, the more likely I'm willing to open light. Otherwise, the above ranges look pretty good.

I think this range is too wide especially since the player is a) passive and raising and b) doing it from middle position.

I tend to tighten up a bit when out of position. Then again, I try to loosen up in these situations also because a lot of players fear a SB raise more than a raise coming from late position. With regard to calling, if the BB is passive, I tend to call with all sorts of junk. The more aggressive he is, the more I tighten up.

This situation has been coming up quite often in the 10/20 and 15/30 games lately. Much more often than I would have expected also.
Being suited in these situations isn't as important to me as high card strength. If I knew the BB to be a loose defender, that would certainly change. But if that were the case, I would probably be completing instead of raising with some of the worse hands noted above. |
