A lot of weaker 10's will not call for another 1800 chips..even at the 6.50's. Would you??? [/ QUOTE ] Anything can happen at the 6.50's, so I wouldn't completely rule out a call with a weaker hand. Just not often enough here. |

Thanks for the replies, all. Will definitely push pre-flop in that situation in the future.
Results, by the way: He called with JT. Not saying that to act as if that justifies the play or anything; I felt pretty icky about the push on the river after I made it, even though it turned out well. Hence this thread. Won't push in that situation in the future. Edited for clarity |

Nice way to learn a lesson, and props for recognizing a possible mistake in a hand you won. |

results don't matter. THis is a pretty obvious push pre-flop and a call on the river.

How about betting 200 on the turn? I often do that in similar spots, as villain has more or less said "I don't want this pot, please take it" and I think you get the fold often enough for this to be +EV. Pushing PF is still better though.

You might want to look into ICM calculations. If you google "ICM poker" you can find sites that will explain it, if you're not familiar with it. You can combine that with pokerstove (which is free), and figure out if different moves are +EV or not (such as pushing ATs in this position; this is an easy one, but where do you draw the line?)
There are also tools you can purchase which will do this for you (highly recommended), but I think it is still a good idea to do some by hand, to get a feel for what's involved in the makeup of the equity (i.e., you can see how much of your equity is fold equity vs. showdown equity) |

I'd push preflop
I'd love calling his soft river bet, pushing there reminds me of the old saying "don't make a bet you can't win", it will only cost more if you're not ahead. |

No question - push pf and smile...
If you got to the river, you should call... The interesting question is - what would you do if he pushed on the river... |
