25nl FR: KQo flops 2over cards
So my first attempt at posting in any NL forum went bad. I posted in the wrong forum, oops. Original post can be found here
Please dont mistake this for an attempt to post in 2 forums as its not. I'm just slow Basically i'm attempting to transition from LHE and spent 2 days reading all the great NL posts/threads on the uNL forum. Played my first hands of NL today. No Limit Holdem Ring game Blinds: $0.10/$0.25 10 players No reads i'm afraid as i have only played 2 orbits so far. Stack sizes: UTG: $19.65 UTG+1: $19.44 UTG+2: $12.55 MP1: $21.14 MP2: $15.30 Hero: $17.16 CO: $93.96 Button: $25.26 SB: $43.52 BB: $5.89 Pre-flop: (10 players) Hero is MP3 with Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] UTG calls, UTG+1 folds, UTG+2 calls, MP1 calls, MP2 folds, Hero raises to $0.75 , CO calls, Button folds, SB calls, BB calls, UTG calls, UTG+2 calls, MP1 folds. Flop: 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]($4.75, 6 players) SB checks, BB bets $4.75, UTG calls, UTG+2 folds, Hero ??? My thinking: Pot is offering me 3:1 to call, i think my 6 out overcards are all clean and am therefore a 6.7:1 dog. However, do my implied odds make this a call? I know its impossible to put an exact value on implied odds. Comments on preflop also welcome |

Re: 25nl FR: KQo flops 2over cards
Raise more PF. 4bb + 1bb/limper is usually the standard raise in NL.
And the flop is an easy fold. His pot size lead to the 6 way pot is very strong and it's very likely that if you hit top pair, it's no good. If the flop was 65Q or 65K I would still fold this hand because he's lead is so strong and you don't want to go broke with TPGK. |

Re: 25nl FR: KQo flops 2over cards
1) Reload to full stack before the hand starts
2) Raise more if you are going to raise. Make it $1.50, folding is not bad, I don't think limping is that bad, although others might disagree. 3) Calling with overcards on the flop is more of a limit play, and should rarely be done in NL, almost all of those situations would be in position in a heads up pot, not in a 6 way pot, and it would be with the intention to bluff the turn, not make a pair. |

Re: 25nl FR: KQo flops 2over cards
22pajo:
Raise more PF, 3bb is going to attract a bloated 3-4 handed pot a lot of the time and KQo doesn't fare well in these kind of pots. A raise of 5-7bb is more likely to get you heads up and in position, which is where you want to be with KQo. Easy fold on the flop, and here is why: I came from a limit background too, and this concept was one of the key shifts I had to make in the way I thought about the game; Hand values go down dramatically in NL This has a profound impact on how you play and think about the game. In LH you can often find a call here getting reasonable immediate odds and hoping to hit a good top pair and extract some more implied odds. But in NL, one pair is a very very weak hand, and because the pot will be bigger on the turn - reverse implied odds mean that in the best case scenario you will be stuck with one pair calling a decent sized bet hoping they don't bet the river. If they do follow up on the river you will often have to fold a hand like TPGK. Whereas in LH TPGK is in most cases a call getting decent odds and closing the action on the river, in the same situations in NL it is frequently just a bluff-catcher. You are doing well to be putting more emphasis on implied odds in NL, but reverse-implied odds go up importance just as much (IMO), especially with one pair hands. |

Re: 25nl FR: KQo flops 2over cards
Preflop in order of personal preference I call, raise, fold. If I raise, I raise 4bb + 1bb per limper. On the flop, this is an easy fold. Also, reload so you have a full stack. Good luck at NL!
