Car insurance (tourist in the US under 21)
Hey. I'm a heading to the states in two weeks and I'm considering buyin a cheap car and drive around (renting is not an option since I'm 20). I guess the car will be in the 1k-2k range. I'm searching primarily for a company in either Florida, Texas or California. Jersey could be an option
Needless to say it's a jungle. I have no idea where to find a company who's willing to insure a 20-year old tourist for 1-2 months. I've looked at American International Group (AIG), but they don't mention anything about age. I'm hoping you guys can help me out |

I'm not sure, but I think you are going to have a hard time registering the car after you buy it w/o a U.S. residence. I think your plan is seriously flawed.

[/ QUOTE ] It's definetly doable for a tourist older than 21. I was wondering whether I could sneak in somewhere |

I agree this can be a cost-effective solution if you're planning quite a bit of travelling. A group of good friends of mine once bought a big yellow Cadillac in NY and drove it all around for two months before finally selling it (for a profit!) in LA. These guys were all over 21 though.
How about checking out getting insurance in your home country? If you currently have a policy check with them, or check with the company your parents are under. Swede |

Maybe they can recommend something. We could just fly around between the big cities and use greyhounds, but I doubt it'll be the same |

If you have insurance in Denmark they should cover you in the US. Just check with them to make sure and tell them what you are doing. At worst they can add something to your policy for the trip. |

Just go to GEICO.com or Progressive.com and ask one of the online agents.

AAA in California will insure foreigners. Don't know about foreigners under 21.
