Default Mahjong

Does anyone here care about or play Mahjong? Not the better known single-player ("Shanghai") variant for PC/various game systems, but the real deal, the four player gambling/strategy game.

It's really popular in Asia, involves both a bit of luck & strategy. You're dealt tiles and have to make hands, kinda like in poker.

They just finished the World Series of Mahjong, it's apparently one of the first major cash events for Mahjong.

The main problem in learning this game is that there are a ton of variants and people tend to use their own house rules. This site, http://www.sloperama.com/mjfaq.html contains quite a bit of info though on commonly played variants. If you were to ever play with other people, you should still inquire about the rules first.

Yahoo games has "real" mahjong too, but it's obviously for free.
