Does anyone know if people living in Puerto Rico are able to play on non-US poker sites (Party, Ongame, iPoker, etc.)? I've heard rumors that you can, but nothing confirmed. If anyone has any first hand experience, i would greatly like to hear about it.

Puerto Rico is part of the United States. Think this through. [/ QUOTE ] early this winter I asked Party VIP customer service about this. Concerning 3 territories of the US: Guam, US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Party rep. said that only territory you could not play real money games from was the US Virgin Islands both Guam and PR were acceptable..that was 6 months ago thu not sure what the current stance is. Call up Party Poker and ask them..it will take you 5 minutes. |

I emailed neteller and they said puerto rico was part of the US. I tried to explain that PR has it's own gov't, doesn't pay US Taxes and doesn't follow the US legal system to a "T" but it went on deaf ears.

I emailed support last month since I was/am considering moving there and they gave me the green light. I tried to dig up email but apparently I have deleted it. So much for that. Anyone up for a move to PR? |

They only pay some of US taxes.
They are not subject to the internal revenue code. |

From wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Rico
"puerto Rico is classified by the U.S. government as an independent taxation authority by mutual agreement with the U.S. Congress. A common misconception is that residents of Puerto Rico do not have to pay federal taxes. Residents of the island pay federal taxes (import/export taxes, federal commodity taxes, social security taxes, etc.) and some even pay federal income taxes (Puerto Rico residents who are federal employees, or who do business with the federal government, Puerto Rico-based corporations that intend to send funds to the U.S., etc). While most residents of the island do not pay federal income tax, they do pay federal payroll taxes (Social Security and Medicare), as well as Puerto Rico income taxes. In addition, because the cutoff point for income taxation is lower than that of the IRS code, and because the per-capita income in Puerto Rico is much lower than the average per-capita income on the mainland, more Puerto Rico residents pay income taxes to the local taxation authority than if the IRS code were applied to the island." Yeah I was off a bit. Apparently you do have to pay social security but not other federal taxes. |
