Default Good bars near Hammerstein Ballroon in NYC?

Does anyone know of any good bars or pubs near Hammerstein Ballroom (W34th and 8th). I'm going there to see the Strokes tomorrow and wanna grab a few drinks before/after the show.

That's a pretty dead part of town.

It's also a venue where the balcony is better than the floor (Roseland is another). It's big and cavernous and the sound is so-so.

I went to a bar in that neighborhood with Daver and some other 2+2ers one night. It was a small Irish pub with a pretty cool Irish bartender. They had some good beer besides the standard you see everywhere. I was really wasted though, so I don't remember exactly where it was. Maybe one of those guys will chime in with more help.

I work near there. The area sucks for bars.

I like Hammerstein. I've seen concerts from the floor and the two upper levels there. There were redeeming qualities of each, but I wouldn't say the floor is necessarily worse, especially if you get a good spot.

Most of the bars around the Garden are pubs. There are 3 on 7th between 30th and 32nd - Mustang Harry's and Mustang Sally's being two of them. There is another one which isn't bad on 33rd and 8th. These are primarily commuter bars - lots of suits before they hop on the train home.

You may have more luck on 9th avenue in the 40's - there are a few good bars there.

I literally have no idea. I was wrecked. I fell asleep in the Union Square subway station for like 40 minutes cause the train took too long to come, then I almost took a [censored] on Fulton St. cause I couldn't hold it long enough to get home (I held it).
