Default File transfer?

Sorry if this is a silly question and TY in advance for all the help and responses.

The cd drive on my laptop is completely broken and I need to get a file(s) from another laptop. I was wondering if there was a way to transfer files without using CDs or a memory stick type thingy? Both laptops are running through the same router so i was wondering if there is a way to basicly drag the files from one cpu to the other.

Sidenote- i can't download AIM for whatever reason so transfering via AIM is out of the question

If you're running windows you can always use windows file sharing. If you remember your administrator password you don't even have to set anything up. Just type \\<machine ip>\c$ into a windows explorer window. (edit: this is called the administrative share in case you wanted to know. Its always on.)
where <machine ip> is your other computer ie 192.168.1.1

otherwise just look up windows file sharing how to on google and you should find a lot.

Both machines are on the same router? That means they are on the same network. Turn on file sharing and look for the other computer in Explorer>Network Places.
