How long ago were you at the morongo? because within the past few years they built a brand new casino and added a hotel/resort. It's not great, but it's decent.

As long as we're talking desert poker, I'm going to be in Palm Springs this weekend and am hoping to steal away for a couple of hours and play some cards. I'd rather not drive to Morongo b/c I'll literally have like 3 hours, so if the Spa Casino or Agua Caliente are passable I'd rather go to one of those. Very little info online, anybody know what they spread at those two rooms?

Agua Caliente regularly spreads LHE at 3-6, 8-16, and 25-50, and I believe all games are with a kill. 6-12 Omaha/8 goes regularly. There is sometimes a 1-2 NL game with I believe a 200 or 300 buyin. All of the limits games are usually going in the evenings, and the NL about 1/2 the time I'd say. You can call ahead to find out.

Morongo is actually a pretty nice casino by L.A. standards. It's facilities are definately better than Commerce and the Bike, as far as facilities go. Plus they have a Fatburger! ZOMG!!!

That said, the poker room isn't run very well. The tables might not be as good as the Bike either. Plus in the 1-2 NL game I'm pretty sure they give you $1 chips, which I thought was retarded. It was some small denomination, either $1 or $2.

There will definately be more and better looking chicks there, especially on weekend nights.

I went to Agua Caliente on a Sundaya afternoon, and it was a while ago so this may not be the best advice. There were about 5 tables going and all were limit. There was an interest list for NL but only like 3 names were on it. I'm pretty sure I saw a 25-50 going that day too. I wish I could be of more help but best bet is to probably call I suppose.

ive played in the morongo game a good amount. if you go on some random weekend and are just basically looking to play a session there, 1k should be sufficient to play in the 2-5 game.

the game itself can have a whacky player texture - there will almost always be 1 or 2 old guys who are way too tight, a few young people who play way too loose and aggressive and the rest will be your average tight/passive players. short stacking isnt too uncommon there.

dont waste your time playing 1-3, its the same rake as the 2-5 ($4 i believe) and the buyin is capped at 100. i have a hard time believing that you can play in that game and beat it long term with rake and dealer tips.

if you play on a crazy holiday weekend, the 2-5 game can play much bigger so bring more if you want to be able to match stacks. also, the floormen do suck, and you will likely have to wait a significant amount of time (sometimes 30 minutes to an hour) to get a seat in the game. in my experience *most* of the dealers are ok.

i went to Morongo for the first time last Saturday. I thougt it was going to suck given the incredibly rude treatment I recived when I called to find out what games were going. Once there i was pleasantly surprised, the room seemed nice, the floors were a bit retarded but the dealers were friendly and the 4-8 kill game was the softest limit game I have ever seen but I'm from MN and have only played at cp so i have no idea how it compares to other CA rooms

Morongo isnt bad.....dont listen to the haters that post here. If you near Palm Springs just drive to Commerce?....yeah, real close by.

Yes, the game goes pretty much every evening. It used to sometimes begin as a 20-40 in the late afternoon and get bumped up to 25-50 by agreement of the players, but lately I've only seen 25-50 and not 20-40. The game is mostly made up of a smallish group of regulars but it is usually a pretty good game nonetheless.
