Computer Noob w/ New Monitor
My dad just brought me an old monitor from his work to hook up to my laptop. All I did was plug the monitor into an outlet and into the back of my computer. When I turn the monitor on it says: Monitor is in Power Save Mode Activate Using PC and the rest of the screen is black.
So what do I do to get my laptop screen onto the monitor. I know with all these smart internet experts someone will know. Thanks in advance.

on laptops there usually is a key combination to select cycle between the built in monitor, the external port or both. its usually something like Fn+F-7 and it will have a crude picture of a monitor on it it may look something like this |o| but with a more square shaped 'o'.
