Default 1/2 NL live JJ OOP

Effective Stacks: I have $270ish. Villain covers.

UTG+1, I make it $17 with J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
I get 4 callers.
Flop: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 10 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I bet $50
Villain in CO calls. Everyone else folds.

Turn (Pot: $185): A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

1) Do I check or bet?
2) If I check, is it with the intention of folding or calling?
3) Note that I only have a little more than a pot bet remaining.

Edit: No reads on villains other than he seems like your run of the mill bad live player.

really tough spot. a read here would really be useful. against an unknown, i'd bet 1/2 pot and fold to a raise. if he calls the turn bet, check/call a non-spade river.

btw, $17 is a huge raise pre-flop. i understand it's a live game, and disregard my statement if that's been the std raise at that table.

1/2 pot bet folding to a raise would mean I am folding getting almost 4:1...that can't be right.

in this case, when he raises your turn bet, do you think you're ahead 20% of the time??? what hands are you beating that raise the turn here? better yet...put him on a range of hands once he calls the flop...
