What to do when the flush card hits
Cryptologic
No Limit Holdem Ring game Blinds: $0.50/$1 6 players Converter Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is UTG with K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Hero raises to $4, UTG+1 calls, 4 folds. Flop: 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($9.5, 2 players) Hero bets $7, UTG+1 calls. Turn: 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($23.5, 2 players) Hero bets $18, UTG+1 calls. River: T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($59.5, 2 players) Hero bets $24, UTG+1 raises all-in $116.25, Hero folds. Uncalled bets: $92.25 returned to UTG+1. Results: Final pot: $107.5 No stats on villain. I was thinking that I should because they're are a lot of hands that I need to get value from and its more likely villain holds one of these hands than the flush draw. If I check i think villain will usually check back if he has a worst hand and I will lose value. However I think what I did wrong was bet too small which looked weak, making his shove seem possibly like a bluff. |

Re: What to do when the flush card hits
Sometimes the small value bet works... maybe a pair of 9's calls. Although I don't like it very much in this case.
I think as played the fold was good, although your analysis about betting too little on the river was right on. Betting closer to $40 allows you to be more sure of where he's at... and I think if you bet $40 and he comes over the top, I'd probably fold there as well. Most of the time players aren't bluffing. This doesn't seem like a profitable spot to look him up and find out. As a quick hypothetical, if you checked the river and he bet between 25-45 you'd probably look him up, but what if you check and he bets 60... is that a fold? |
