Re: Best LHE in the USA???
I'm another regular in the 20/40 and 40/80 games at Bay 101, and I basically agree with everything Sucker and Analyst have said in this thread. If there are teams working those games, I haven't noticed, and it definitely isn't hurting me much. The Garden City 20/40 and AJ's 15/30 in particular are games that I feel you could teach a blind drunk monkey to beat for 1 BB/hr. The Bay 101 20/40 and 40/80 games aren't as good as the Commerce games, but it's still plenty beatable.

There are certainly some friends who play these games, but other than the AJ 15/30, there is very little soft-playing that I've witnessed. These games are fine just as they are, TYVM. |

All said and done, I dont see how any Bay Area LHE can make it onto a list in terms of beatable games. [/ QUOTE ] If you can't beat the GC and Bay101 20-40 games, you should probably move down in limits. I play the 20-40 regularly at both casinos, and even ABC poker will make you a winning player. Never played the 40-80. |

Never played the 40-80. [/ QUOTE ] It used to be a lot tougher, but (IMO, take it FWIW) most of the tougher, more aggressive players now frequent the 1-2. The problem with the 40 is that there's typically only a main game and a single must move, whereas there might be three or four 20's going at the same time, and one or two of those 20's will be great. Honestly, my biggest complaint is with the city of San Jose and their hate/hate relationship with GC and Bay101. It sucks that Bay101 and GC are limited to 40 tables. It also sucks that they aren't allowed to comp the players in any way. Those complaints aside, San Jose is a great place to play LHE. Is it as good as LA? No, but it has its charms. |

Re: Best LHE in the USA???
GC's new owners fired all of their foodstaff and outsourced all the jobs to Aramark over comping high rollers (so to speak). Was this because it was illegal in SJ? I thought it was because they still werent profitable since the skimming bust in '93.
Regardless I agree that SJ is the spot for LHE in the Bay, if only based on the prime rib at GC. |

Re: Best LHE in the USA???
I don't know if that was the reason, but comping the players anything in San Jose is explicitly against the rules that the city established for the clubs. Hell, I was playing the other night and one of the dealers was relaying a story about how another dealer (now deceased...RIP, Chuck ) was experiencing something like a severe asthma attack, and the club did not want to call 911, as they didn't want the additional scrutiny and inevitable police report that would follow.
Hence my comment on the hate/hate relationship and general antipathy the city holds towards both card clubs. That these clubs thrive despite the amount of heat they receive should tell you all you need to know about the strength of the underlying player base in San Jose. |

GC's new owners fired all of their foodstaff and outsourced all the jobs to Aramark over comping high rollers (so to speak). [/ QUOTE ] There was a thread about this a couple of weeks ago. No one in the thread had ever seen or heard of anyone getting comped food or beverage at Garden City. Moreover, if someone was ever comped, I doubt that the (now fired) kitchen staff or server was the decision maker in driving a comp. The "comp" issue looked to be an invented justification for the firings. Regarding teams or crews, I too am able to speak/understand a language in common use in the cardrooms, though I'm ethnically dissimilar to those who speak the language natively. Garden City is the one place where it was not unusual for players to talk about their hands during play. This was the only real fault I've found at GC (other than the $5 drop). Please excuse the mini-hijack. |

I'm not sure I could learn much from a pre-recorded course on such a difficult language, but could one understand poker table talk of Saigon Vietnamese if he understood Hanoi Vietnamese? |

Re: Best LHE in the USA???
foxwoods has great limit hold em action.
they have the small games, 2-4, 4-8, and 5-10 kill games. lots of 2-4 and 4-8 tables. they have medium games 10-20, and 20-40. all of the mentioned games are spread regulary. often they spread 40-80, 50-100, and 100-200. sometimes they will spread 75-150. as for the lower limit games, the 2-4, and 4-8 are obviously very beatable. a very good player can actually earn real money in the 4-8 game. for the mid limits, ive only played in the 10-20, and its basically a higher limit 4-8 game on the weekends, and during the weak its tight but beatable if you're a good player and game selective. ive never played higher but i have encountered some "currently budgeting" players who are taking a break from getting cleaned out in the 20-40 games so i am assuming theres plenty of money in them, becuase there are many weak players who do play the games regularly. cant speak for anywhere else but fooxwoods is a great poker room |

Personally, I find the Foxwoods 10-20 game to be a very profitable game. magic [/ QUOTE ] good for you since the 10-20 is the toughest Holdem game in Foxwoods, ipso-facto the toughest game in the Northeast. Foxwoods should definitely be in the top 3 of the list. It has great game selection, loose players, and the rake is not high. And collusion among locals is very rare; we hate each other more than the tourists. |
