If someone calls me one of those names I'll ask them if they're a convict because they're talking like a convict. Pretty sure "dawg" has a prison origin to it also. [/ QUOTE ] It's also a common way to "get back at" people you're thinking of as "the bad guys" or "the oppressors." Used across races or across classes or both, this is a pretty big unprovoked insult. Unless you count being a different race or class as just provocation. Which tons of people do.
