Re: How do you guys avoid the draw of table games?
Some pretty awful advice here. "I just realize the tables are -EV and move on." Jeez, thanks. I'm sure the OP didn't realize that craps is a negative proposition.
Couple of things: if you're not spending a lot of time or money at the tables, it's really just not that big of a deal. If you end up putting in ten hours a month at the blackjack tables, betting $10 a pop, you're probably costing yourself around $100. That's not nothing, but depending on your income and lifestyle it's probably not enough to make a huge dent. Consider your ability to absorb that kind of loss, or whatever the amount is that you're expected to lose. Variance is a factor, obviously, but again unless you're living week-to-week it probably won't make that much of a difference. OTOH, if you find that the amount you're losing is more than you can afford, and/or you absolutely cannot avoid the tables even when you'd like to or know you really should, you need to seek help with your gambling problem. Talk to a therapist, get into a 12-step program, whatever. Everyone has the urge to gamble once in a while, but if it's getting out of control you should speak to someone about it ASAP. |

Stop being single session results oriented in your poker play.
Stick to the thought that poker is one life-long session. |

GA? [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I found a little $2 booklet of theirs in the self-help section of the bookstore (sorry, I don't recall the title). It turns out that the trigger in my subconscious that caused me to want to blow all my money on -EV games was very common, and very simple to adjust. Of course, poker is +EV for me, as well as a couple of sports. I don't know if I'd be boasting about how easy it was for me to go from sickie to cured, if I didn't have the outlet of +EV action. |
