Default Re: 1/2NL game at my B&M beatable? (Crown Casino, Melbourne, Australia

[ QUOTE ]
Does anyone know what the rake and buy in is for this 2/3 NL game?

[/ QUOTE ]
It's the same - $5 time charge, plus 10% up to $6. Max buy-in is $200.

[ QUOTE ]
Also, what's the next limit after 2/3 NL . . . 2/5? What's the rake and buy in like on those games?

[/ QUOTE ]
The next buy-in up is 2/5. May buy-in is $500. I don't remember the rake off the top of my head, but it is again either the same ($5 plus 10% up to $6) or it is $10/hr plus the pot charge.

[ QUOTE ]
Also, anyone know the rake for the 5/10 fixed limit game? I was planning on a few month long poker vacation to Melbourne, but I didn't realize how absurd the 1/2 NL structure was.

[/ QUOTE ]
The 5/10 limit game is also raked very high, but without the time charge.

[ QUOTE ]
Maybe I'll have to find another exotic location to travel to with a nice cardroom.

[/ QUOTE ]
I'd suggest going somewhere like Fiji, or Tahiti, (depending on where you're coming from, maybe somewhere else) and get an internet connection.

Live poker for an extended period of time is, I think, like stabbing yourself in the eye with a screwdriver repeatedly.

Star City is almost the same, $1/$2 $80 max buyin, 10% up to $8 rake and $5/hour time charge.

No. The $2/$3 game at Crown (Melbourne) has the rake as I described.

You are right about the $5/$5 game at Star City - $1 per hand per person.

I still think it is +EV to simply not play UTG or UTG+1.

I took a trip on a cruise ship once and they had 10/20. The rake was 10% to 15$. The players there were so terrible that I still made $1000-$1500 dollars on the 6 night cruise.

That is so true - this games are full of the most awful players ever.

TeddyFBI's blog tells the story of going to Star City with me:

Ashtray broom. who is your friend that move from 5/10 to 20/40?
FWIW the best game at crown is actually 20/40 LHE. it has a red chip rake up to $10. so if the game is short, and it doesn't get past the flop HU, no rake is dropped.
5/10 LHE is beatable for $15/hour if your good enough. it has a %10 rake, no time, $10 cap.
10/20 is just as soft. %5 rake, $10 cap, no time. $30/hour should be expected.
if you want to play, start at 5/10 and work up. its easy. if your bored you can read a book and play.

>OMFG!!! Why do people play these games?

Each Australian state has legislated casino monopolies. Some states have two or three casinos, but the two largest (NSW and Victoria) have but one casino each.

To be fair, the integrity and honesty of Aust casinos is beyond reproach; their accountability and adherence to regulations is exemplary. There is never a fear the house will cheat you, or take you out the back and beat you up.

Still, without competition, facilities are average, rakes absurd, and an attitude pervades of "Well, if you don't like it, tough." Sad, in a sport which is still possibly booming, and in captive markets of millions of nice little middle demographic gamblers.

I wrote a lengthy report on why I am dubious about the long-term viability of Australian B & M poker a couple of weeks ago on Pokernetwork.com. I believe legislation is both a strength and an impediment. But I do not see it changing.
here

Australians will continue to be ripped off live, which perhaps explains their seemingly disproportionate presence online.
