5/10 set hand #2
Villain is a loose donk, but not super passive. LuBall13, if you want the name. One hand that I can remember playing with him was the following. I had Axs, and he insta-c/c'ed the flop and then c/min-raised the turn with JJ. I ended up calling down because I had a read that he was weak. But, a stupid play like that doesn't imply that he would make a huge shove with any hand I beat in this one.
I made such a small 3-bet because I figured it would save me money in case he shoved (and it wouldn't pot commit me), but if he had something stupid like two pair, he'd call, but it would bloat the pot enough to make a sizable river value bet. So how's my line? Re: 5/10 set hand #2
2 out of 3 of the available sets for villain are lower than yours, and the only draws that completed on the turn are gutshots which, if playable in the first place for BB, put lots of wacky two pair combos in the realm of possibility too...and what with your wacky almost-minraising on the turn, a "loose donk" could surely decide to felt two-pair here no? Seems like an awful fold to me, granted I don't play this high though.
*EDIT* Whoops, 24 is open-ended on flop, but then if he could have 24, it might make it less of a fold not more. |

[/ QUOTE ] Agreed, 3 betting this turn sucks if you're planning on folding to a shove, since he probably shoves with a lower set. I'd just call the turn, and call river (unless I filled up of course), and if I did decide to 3 bet the turn I'm not folding when he shoves. |

Re: 5/10 set hand #2
When I look at this hand again, I think it's close, but I definitely don't think it's an insta-call as some of you are implying. Only the worst of donks shove 300 BBs with two pair on a board like this, and 3 different straights just completed, which are all possible (though 87 is the most likely).
Had he made a real 3-bet, then I would've called and called the river if I didn't fill up. But with my current hand, I'm not looking to play WAWB just quite yet. If I had 3-bet to 1000 or so, then I'd call the shove, but I kind of feel that 3-betting small gives me the information I need, while saving the rest of my stack if I'm behind. It also builds the pot just to the right size that if he does have something stupid like 65, I can get some nice value on the river. |

Re: 5/10 set hand #2
you could have made a good fold but that small 3-bet is ridiculous. if you're concerned that you could be behind and want information, call and see what he does on the river. if he bets small, raise. if he bets big, call.
but 3-betting small and folding to the shove could have cost you a big pot if he happened to have a lower set or two pair. which is the primary reason it sucks |
