Default Re: How do you guys avoid the draw of table games?

5 years ago I started using Quickbooks and Pocket Quicken on my Palm. Every time I spend any money at all I pull out my palm and enter the expense. It only took me about 2 months of seeing how much money I wasted before I stopped playing craps and I stopped eating fast food.

As a winning player I find this works. When I walk into the casino oftentimes I mentally gloat at this fantastic idea that all these people playin' these games around me are suckers. Granted, a lotta people have fun playin' these games, and for most of them, they consider the price worth it.

But as a winning player, I have the ability to walk into the casino and not be a sucker. I really consider these table game players suckers (the entertainment value notwithstanding) and thus, the very notion of sittin' down at one of those things is almost inconceivable to me (of course excepting drunken revelry with good friends).

Excellent post. QFT

I leave all of my money at the poker table. Once I go broke there, no money to blow on blackjack.

All I see when I see table games is a bunch of individual EV bets. Losing 5 and a quarter cents on the dollar here, 54% house edge there, this pays 30-to-1 when it should be 35-to-1 over here.

It's pretty effective. I used to mess with them a lot before I started dealing and then took a little time to see what the EV was on a lot of the various craps, roulette, and blackjack wagers. I don't even give them a second thought now, except maybe on rare occasions I'll play blackjack at a $5 table (not too expensive when you play basic strategy for a shoe or so).

It's a losing proposition of course, especially after tokes, so you need to be getting your money's worth in entertainment....

I wish you could ban yourself from casinos like you can online.

I'm pretty certain you CAN ban yourself from a casino. Although I'm not sure if you can just ban yourself from table games.

when I have a bad session and I'm walking out of the casino passing by all the table games sometimes I just can't help it and impulsively try to "get even" with some blackjack. Obviously that never ends well.

Learn how to card count. There are some very simple systems out there that will let you make a small profit (assuming your don't tip big) for very little effort.
KO BlackJack is one of the easiest systems out there... took me about a week (practice ~1 hour a day) to get decent at it.

There you go. Make it obvious. Then you'll get barred and blacklisted from every blackjack table in Vegas.

if i have a really bad day, i usually blow my last 15 or 20 bucks on the roulette wheel. no biggie to me.

i only have a bad day once every couple of months so it's alright.

i bet on dog and horse races though but i actually make money at that.

That's like the secret of George Bush's appeal.

"George Bush doesn't have any appeal."
"THAT'S THE SECRET!"

unless you have put in alot of work at learning a system making a table game +EV which it sounds like you haven't from your original post, just remind yourself that you aren't supposed to win before you sit to play. It comes down to discipline and controlling the little gamble demon inside.

If you really feel the need to hit the table games, set a limit and play some after a big win at the poker tables just don't expect to win going into it. That way you can get it out of your system.
