Here's another entry:

Monday: Maryland to Indianapolis (primarily via I-70). About 8.75 hours, 600 miles. There aren't going to be a ton of things going on - it's Monday night after all, but Indy is a pretty underrated city. You might consider enjoying a little live thoroughbred racing at Indiana Downs, but the post is pretty early - 4:55. Other ideas @ www.indy.org

Tuesday: Indy to Des Moines. 6 hours 57 minutes, 473 miles. Easy day, skirting well around Chicago and avoiding St. Louis. Attend Iowa Cubs (AAA) game @ 7:05.

Wednesday: Des Moines to Denver. 9 hours 47 minutes, 672 miles. Will be boring as [censored], but Wednesday's going to be like that regardless. Never spent any time in Denver, so no ideas on what to do. Check out LoDo?

Thursday: Denver to Las Vegas. 750 miles, 11 hours 3 minutes.

Friday: LV to SD.

For what it's worth, I've driven most of these routes.

DC/MD to Chicago is probably around 10-11 hours.
Chicago to Colorado is around 15 hours.

Straight through 15 hours is pretty rough.

I-40 is really the most direct route to Vegas. I mean look at it, its nearly a straight line there.

The op is looking at all interstate map. When you are in the NW section of Arizona at the city of Kingman is where you get off the interstate to take the highway straight north to Las Vegas. This of course is where you will cross the Hoover damn. Now I stayed in 2hr gridlock when I was at the Hoover Damn but I believed they have no completed the highway overpass that bypasses the entire damn.

Plus the section of I-40 through the panhandle of Texas is prob less than 150 miles.

Lastly the speed limit is higher in New Mexico and Arizona.

i might be biased since i did it in the winter

ummmm.... yea

I-70 in the winter is much different and can be quite harrowing, particularly in bad weather. Summer is easy.

I have many fond memories of I-70 in the winter, mainly because I was going skiing.

So you searched the internet for 30 seconds and couldn't find anything to do in Colorado, therefore it sucks? You suck.

I drove back and forth across Hoover Dam a couple of weeks ago. The bypass is not complete. I had no delay going from AZ->NV but got stuck for a couple of hours coming back because of an accident. If you haven't seen Hoover Dam before it's a good sightseeing stop in itself.
