It was stupid to pay with $10k cash... Mike should've used either check, or met at his house or a bank or something.

Mike still owes the money, obviously. If they're friends, the robbery doesn't have anything to do with Dave.

Mike has some bad luck. He still owes money.

Mike still own 10K to Dave because it's a standard scam. He paid a 15% of the 10K to the robber.

He still owes money was technically never delivered. I only have one question. Was the loan a favor or was he charging juice? If it was a favor then it was borrowers fault for putting the money in jeopardy, but if it was a loan with juice I see it a little different. Example: if I am doing you a favor loaning you money I shouldn't have to cover theft losses as well.

Yah, I figured this would be the response. I agree. And yes, it was stupid bringing that much cash to a club, but I must admit I've been guilty of it several times.

Mike (the one who got mugged) is insisting they split the debt 50/50. He has grudgingly agreed to pay $5000, but that's it and he doesn't seem to be changing his mind. It's a real shame honestly and has more-or-less ruined their friendship. I've lost a lot of respect for Mike over this.

It was a favor. However, I don't quite see how this is relevant. I don't think it changes anything.

It is relevant because if it is a favor the money never would have been there if he didn't do him this favor. He shouldn't have to take any risk other than trusting the guy to pay him back. If he is charging juice then it is a business deal and the risk of being robbed is part of the deal.

More important though the money never got to him and was stupid to bring it to a club LDO. This may be a stretch but what is the chance the robbery was a setup so he would only have to pay half?

yes he still owes him

40% chance it was a setup, regardless of whether or not you believe him when he says no
