Re: 10$/45 FT - 77 UTG+1
This is a lousy EP spot and one that always irritates me
A shove is a ridiculous overbet If you raise, someone is going to shove on you If you limp, someone is going to shove on you And unless you hit your set 77 just doesn't hold up well. More than I like to admit, from EP, in situations like this, I fold and invariably am thrilled I did |

I agree sir 100% - not enough depth to play for set, and too speculative to play from early position with an all-in more than likely. Unless, the table is particularly weak/tight, I save my chips for a better spot. |

Re: 10$/45 FT - 77 UTG+1
[ QUOTE ]
If you raise, someone is going to shove on you. [/ QUOTE ] This one is all about stacks. There is one stack behind in which a shove would just be a call. There are two stacks behind you which if they shoved, calling would be around 2:1. MP2 is the only real worry with SB a slight worry. And if you raise, these two guys are only going to play with you if they have something really good, so you can get away easily from a reraise or for any non-set flop or just check it down. Folding is certainly not horrible, but I believe you are leaving chips on the table to somebody else. I think you have very good fold equity against the bigger stacks here. MP2 is comfy to watch the hand unfold and SB has quite a few stacks below him so he's not doing anything stupid. [ QUOTE ] More than I like to admit, from EP, in situations like this, I fold and invariably am thrilled I did [/ QUOTE ] Perhaps you fold your 77 and watch A3 go against K10 and an A or K comes on the flop and you say wow, I would have lost. However, when you raise to enter the pot, a lot of those hands fold, so you have to take that into account. |

I understand what you are saying ... but I am not being results oriented in that manner
I really, really just hate this position ... and am happy with the decision even if everyone else shoved after me for the shovefest of the century, and I would have hit my quads. |

Nice to see this one creates an interesting discussion.
[ QUOTE ] Inner man: "Let's see if we can turn our 2nd chip lead into a shortstack with a lousy pair of 7s." [/ QUOTE ] lol, very good! It's definitively a difficult spot I think. Folding would be weak, but safe. Raising on the other hand is the aggressive way to go, but sucks because of our position. Limping is out of question for me, whereas some might do that (probably not that bad?) The problem I see with raising is that we have to call a shoving shortstack. Do we really want that? We can't really expect to be better than a coinflip, and prolly be a severe dog (like villain was in my hand. arrggh). Why take this risk? |

Re: 10$/45 FT - 77 UTG+1
[ QUOTE ]
Afterwards I thought I played this badly. Why on earth would I raise at all? I was 3rd chip-wise with a big gap to the short stacks. A raise just has the potential to put myself into trouble... I think I should have folded pf, but I'm not sure. [/ QUOTE ] Cause you want to win the tourney. Because there is ~80% chance that the remaining players do not have a higher pair. Because you are on the $ bubble + stack dynamics. Because you are flipping against reasonable ranges from the shorties getting ~1.5(or more) to 1. I probably raise to 1000-1200 looking to call a push from one of the 4k or less stacks. With the table layout, if MP1 shoves and one of the blinds call (or both blinds get it in), I am pretty confident I am beat and can let go. I think I would rather raise and MAKE things happen than limp and HOPE things happen. Folding is weak tight (especially in this situation) but not unheard of. |

Re: 10$/45 FT - 77 UTG+1
i am more likely to call a moderate reraise from someone with a nice stack behind them because flop play is real easy.

Re: 10$/45 FT - 77 UTG+1
i call bc i also have limp reraise w a monster as part of the arsenal. i would have called the allin as played and after the limp. i call as part of a balanced strategy
