Overplayed 88?
Looking for comments re the hand below. My M=14. Here were my thoughts:
1- Decided to reraise CO raiser because I thought there was some fold equity. I can fold to a 4-bet by one of the blinds 2- But I cant shake the feeling that this hand was overplayed based on an M of 14 Full Tilt Poker No Limit Holdem Tournament Blinds: t80/t160 8 players Converter Stack sizes: UTG: t5160 UTG+1: t4386 MP1: t6150 MP2: t1340 CO: t2900 Hero: t3315 SB: t4625 BB: t9490 Pre-flop: (8 players) Hero is Button with 8♣ 8♥ 4 folds, CO raises to t450, Hero raises to t1300, 2 folds, CO raises all-in t2900, Hero calls t1600 (pot was t4440). Flop: J♣ 7♣ K♥ (t6040, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: t6040) Turn: 5♥ (t6040, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: t6040) River: Q♦ (t6040, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: t6040) Results: Final pot: t6040 Hero showed 8c 8h CO showed Ah Qc Results: Final pot: t6040 Hero showed 8c 8h CO showed Ah Qc |

I like it, but I'm the king of overplaying 88. Just ask MattG.

Re: Overplayed 88?
Terrible decision.
The re-raise itself isn't horrible per se. It's that you didn't take into account the fact that you're priced in to call a preflop shove from villain afterwards. At best, you'd be an 11:10 favorite. But most of the time, you're probably a 4:1 dog. |

Re: Overplayed 88?
I like the re-raise, but I think when he comes back over the top he's telling you he has a real monster (even though he really didn't)and you need to lay it down. But don't beat yourself up over this one, you were a favorite and were priced in after your re-raise, if you put him on AK which was possible you made the right decision, depends on what you had for info on this player.

Re: Overplayed 88?
Just shove preflop (88 is very strong against random villian that opens the pot from cutoff). Raising to 1300 leaves you pot committet. As played, you obv have to call villian's shove beacause you priced yourself into it.

Re: Overplayed 88?
Overplayed. As played you my as well push-you committed yourself to the hand by raising almost 40% of your stack.

CO could have a WIDE range of hands, Even if you pushed right here I could see him calling with 77 or AJ or perhaps even worse if hes loose. And he could have any ace and fold or any small poket pair. Nice play with 8's I say, except that you can just push all in before the flop. |

Re: Overplayed 88?
Like they say if your gonna win a tourny, you have to win the 50/50's. It seems as if you like to gamble, at best you had to feel like it was going to be a coin flip. He could just be on a steal but it all depends on how he was playing before. If they guy has made the steal attempt several times, than i would have done what you did and raise. But if he was a rock, i would have picked a better spot.
