i finally gave in and opened a bottle of glenfidditch 18-yr. my first drink of scotch and i don't like it all that much. tips/suggestions/etc. on a process for learning to drink it? or just suck it up and pour it back?

The one time I had a bottle of Scotch someone tried to tell me about sipping and breathing and smelling it or something but I only managed to dent it by basically following every sip with more beer, your basic rolling Depth Charge. The bathroom floor was surprisingly comfortable.
