2011 Super Bowl location
Today the NFL owners determined who would host the Super Bowl in 2011. Three locations remained: Arizona, Indianapolis, and North Texas. Supposedly, Arizona was considered an extreme longshot (since they are hosting in '08) and the decision was basically between the other two. Neither Dallas nor Indianapolis have ever hosted a Super Bowl.
Both remaining cities, of course, have pros and cons. Both will also have new football stadiums before 2011. Most of what I have heard and read seemed to indicate that Indianapolis is better prepared to host the actual event itself. Being a regular host of the Final Four, and holding the Indianapolis 500 (which is far and away highest attended single day sporting event in America every year,) the city has a lot of experience on it's side. On the other hand, Dallas' new stadium will have ~20,000 more seats than Indy's (financially this may not be a concern to the NFL owners as Indianapolis is said to be kicking in $25 million cash to compensate for the lower ticket sales expected to have a face value of $900.) Weather is also an advantage for Dallas. The odds for warm weather for a Indianapolis Super Bowl are slim to none, while in Dallas it's about 50/50. So the decision went to Dallas. What do you think? Was this the correct decision? Where would you like to see the Super Bowl? |

Re: 2011 Super Bowl location
This definitely should have gone to Indy.
The stadium currently being built in Indianapolis is the culmination of years of negotiations and was once considered a long shot to get built at all. Giving the superbowl to Indy would have sent a message that the NFL would reward the public financing of the stadium and would have helped other teams get stadiums built in the future. |
