Re: debt collector calls - debt is 10 years old - WTF?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I'll pay it, but I don't want my identity stolen either. [/ QUOTE ] DO NOT PAY IT! I'm not an expert in this but im almost certain that any adverse effects from missed payments/defaulting and such drop off your credit record after 7 years. By paying the amount, I believe that a new adverse mark can appear on your credit report. Again, I am not an expert on missing payments and such so do your research first. There is a webboard to that specializes in this type of stuff by I forget what it is off the top of my head. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, encourage theft just because he can get away with it. Go theft!!! Also, don't ever tell them that you are going to pay. If you do, that starts the 7 year clock again.

Yeah, encourage theft just because he can get away with it. Go theft!!! [/ QUOTE ] I am by no means encouraging theft I just wanted to make sure the OP did not send them off a check before thinking things through. As others have stated, there are ways to pay this debt while ensuring a derogatory mark does not appear on his credit report and this is the way the OP should proceed. In my opin, it is wrong not to pay back debt but paying this debt should not result in the OP being punished even more. |
