Default Question about Hellmuth\'s column \"Kept Up At Night Wondering\"

http://www.cardplayer.com/magazine/article/260

Basically he recounts a hand against Phil Gordon and Mike Matusow. Gordon is BB, Matusow is two off, and Hellmuth has the button with KTo. Matusow has merely called, which was uncharacteristic of him, so Phil folds, smelling a trap, though he would normally have played it. Turns out, if he'd played his hand, he figures that he would have busted Matusow and weakened Gordon.

This is my question, and it's pretty basic: Doesn't Hellmuth discount the fact that it's one thing to play a hand head's up, and another to play against two opponents? So, he's saying that Matusow and Gordon would have played their hands the same if he'd been in the hand, and my thought is that, no, probably not.
