Re: Choose Life: A Hypothetical Model for the Gigabet Dilemma
I thought about it, and my stupid nitpick wasn't even right. Ignore this.

Re: Choose Life: A Hypothetical Model for the Gigabet Dilemma
Chips flow clockwise in cash-games, but does $EV flow clockwise in tournaments?
When it is preflop push/fold time, the $EV flows counter-clockwise as you can push many more hands than you can call. Tournaments are not 100% preflop push/fold, of course, so $EV may still flow clockwise. Assuming it does flow clockwise, would it flow faster from big-stacks than short-stacks? Perhaps in a cash-game, but in tournaments it is well known that small-stacks bleed while big-stacks grow. While the big-stacks may be growing by giving $EV to the left and getting more than that back from the right, I don´t think they will be giving away as much $EV to the left as the short-stacks do. [ QUOTE ] When you are on the bubble in a SNG (4-handed), and you have a medium stack size and there are two small stacks and one big stack. If the two small stacks are to your immediate left you can often push (almost) any two when you're in the SB and on the button, while if the big stack is to your immediate left, you have to be very tight in the SB. Small stacks to your left and big stacks to your right is nice in this situation. [/ QUOTE ] While you can push more often when it is folded to you when the small-stacks are to your left, it will less often be folded to you when the big-stack is to your right. Doesn´t this mean it doesn´t matter where the stacks are located? |

[/ QUOTE ] No, because the big stack will fold to you more often than he would open if he were on the button if he has to fear you coming over the top. Similarly you would have to play even tighter with the big stack OTB as he can come over the top quite freely / call more loosely. Having the big stack acting first gives you much more freedom to act. However you do not have to fear the shortstacks coming over the top as you can push in on them. Basically, whichever of the bigger stacks acts last when the shorties are in the blinds has an advantage, and this is more pronounced for the medium stack. |

Re: Choose Life: A Hypothetical Model for the Gigabet Dilemma
thanks for the great read ... saw ya on TV the otherday too
anyhow, this reminded of a final table hand where it went something like UTG raise, I fold, Guy on My Left rerose, SS#1 pushed, BB pushed medium stack, orignal raiser called with AA and reraiser folded after showing me his crap cards that he reraised with. I asked him later why he rerose and his response was he was hoping it would force some allins...don't know if he was pulling my leg and action probably would of gotten there anyhow without his chip bleed since BB had KK but it still got me thinking. |

Re: Choose Life: A Hypothetical Model for the Gigabet Dilemma
Nice timing with the bump of this thread. Gigabet (Darrell Dicken) is currently the chipleader with 18 players left in the WPT event at the Mirage.
Tim, In regard to the hand that you referenced you should be fairly confident that the villain was just pulling your leg with the 'i wanted to induce a shove' comment. He raised to take the hand down and he decided that he was going to start playing tighter so he showed you his cards so that you would think that he was a manaic the next time that he reraised you |

Is this for real? Wow, guess we have some philosophers here just dying for attention.
Yes, the tree makes noise...maybe... |
