Can you move in this state?
I have the sleep paralysis thing very frequently (like twice a week) where I am awake, can't move, and hear voices and loud high-pitched ringing. I don't see things though. It happens to me so much that it is just an annoyance now - when I force myself out of the state there is a huge adrenaline rush that doesn't feel good. I've read a lot about it on the internet and it doesn't seem to be dangerous. It is associated with narcolepsy but if you haven't developed that by now I doubt it you will start anytime soon. |

It's "Shadow People" and has been thoroughly investigated and researched by Art Bell and his friends.

Re: Does this happen to anyone else? Dream/sorta awake/ghost? related
Thanks for the serious replies everyone.
After reading wiki Im not totally sure its NOT sleep paralysis. I cant really remember if I can move during these episodes, however after a short period of time I always do and then it stops....for that short period though I dont know if I can or can not. Its been occuring much more lately and some of the possible causes fit pretty well. -Irrefular sleeping schedules, naps, sleeping in -Increased stress -Sudden lifestyle changes Going out for a while in a bit but Im def going to read up some more when I get back Thanks again |

mntbikr,
If you're not sure if it's sleep paralysis after reading the wiki article then I'd say it's 90%+ that you don't have it. I have it quite often, and it's a VERY distinct feeling. It's not something you'd be unsure about. |

Google "hypnagogic hallucinations" (going to sleep, lots of people feel like they're falling and experience a jerk) and hypnopompic hallucinations (waking up). Can be auditory, visual, etc. Nothing wrong with you. Ship it.

Re: Does this happen to anyone else? Dream/sorta awake/ghost? related
I used to have the hypnagogic type real bad for a while, over a span of a month or two maybe. I would feel like I was falling off a cliff and violently start up in reaction. Normal process of losing consciousness to sleep, but for some reason I remained too aware of it. The feeling of falling was extremely visceral and felt super rapid -- practically enough to make me gasp in shock. Not fun. Don't know why I started doing that or why I stopped.
