As a father, I have to say that I was extremely touched by the AJ/Tony/suicide scene. I give David Chase, Gandolfini & especially Robert Iler (who I've never been fond of) a tremendous amount of credit for pulling that off as well as they did.
Tony's realization that he needed to stop being angry and hold his child to comfort him was poignant and emotional for many viewers I'd imagine. Still, thinking about it now, the scene really was amazing..gives me chills to think about and I'm not one moved like that often. As many of you know, I've been critical of Chase's approach this season, but, I have to say, I think this episode was a classic..a masterpiece in the same class as Long Term Parking, Pussy's death, and the episode where Mikey Palmice got it from Paulie/Christopher. |
